With there being so much hype surrounding her latest music video ‘Born Free‘, Directed by Romaine Gavras, Maya Arulpragasam, also known as M.I.A., recently did a two-day photo shoot around Manhattan and Brooklyn New York with photographer Ryan McGinley, for New York Times magazine. Ryan McGinely did a wonderful job in capturing M.I.A. at her finest; carefree, young, loose and passionate. The image of her on the swing is amazing.

These photos go along with the article M.I.A.’s Agitprop Pop written by Lynn Hirschberg a long time contributer for The New York Times Magazine. M.I.A. recently spoke of her disagreement with Hirschbergs’s article saying what she wrote wasn’t the truth, seen here on her Twitter account, the article features Hirschberg and M.I.A. speaking about her links to Sri Lanka, her visa problems in the US and her family. This was also covered by NME Magazine. The recording artist had this to say:

“917.834.3158 CALL ME IF YOU WANNA TALK TO ME ABOUT THE N Y T TRUTH ISSUE, ill b taking calls all day bitches ;)” – M.I.A.

“NEWS IS AN OPINION! UNEDITED VERSION OF THE INTERVIEW WILL BE ON neetrecordings THIS MEMORIAL WEEKEND!!! >>>>” – M.I.A.

So like she said the unedited version of the interview will be on neetrecordings.com M.I.A. personal website this Memorial Weekend, so be on the look out, because it will be covered here. Seems like M.I.A. has been in the news a lot lately for her mouth, but I like her for that, I can respect a person, let alone a major music artist who isn’t afraid to speak their mind.
