GQ Magazine: Spike Lee Is Still Doing the Right Thing

Spike Lee talks to GQ about the Haiti earthquake, the followup to his Emmy-winning HBO documentary about Katrina, and why he’s (slightly) miffed at Obama

What should Obama have done differently about the spill?
Before this catastrophe, our president was in favor of offshore drilling. And when this thing happened, he backtracked real quick.
[pauses] I don’t know why Obama ever trusted these BP guys! They would lie to their mothers. Hayward does not give a fuck. The thing we don’t talk about is that eleven Americans lost their lives and it took seven weeks to invite their families to the White House. I’m not trying to bash my man, but that’s a long time.

John Legend hits us with a new rendition of Wake Up Everybody originally song by Harold Melvin and The Bluenotes which were a Philadelphia native R&B soul group. The song was released in 1975 toping the U.S. R&B charts at #1 and the U.S. Charts at #9. It seems that John Legend and The Roots are trying to call for awareness, engagement and consciousness in our nation. The collaborative album between John Legend and The Roots is set to release September 21.

Introducing Andreya Triana

Nu-Soul Magazine best describes her in a recent interview she did with them:

London-based singer-songwriter Andreya Triana has a resume that’s quite impressive for a self-taught vocalist with an album not yet in stores.Lost Where I Belong, her debut hitting stores on Sept. 7, is on the famed Ninja Tune label, and is produced by downtempo/trip-hop mega producer Bonobo. Furthermore, out of thousands she was selected to attend the Red Bull Music Academy in Australia to hone her skills even more as a musician; to where she’s appeared on works with abstract hip-hop DJ and producer Flying Lotus. Through it all, it seems Andreya has remained humble, appreciative and sincere in her journey from odd jobs to up-and-coming neo soul star. – Nu-Soul Magazine

Below check out the videos for Andreya Triana’s two singles Lost Where I Belong and A Town Called Obsolete which can also be purchased on Itunes.
